SD Stockgrowers Association recognizes agritourism course graduates

South Dakota

SD Stockgrowers Association hosted media and guests on March 8 to celebrate the graduation of 30 individuals who completed the course "Agritourism: Your Next Cash Crop?" Graduates of the course spent 20 hours in the classroom naming and describing their businesses, identifying target customers, developing basic marketing plans, considering cash flow projections, and addressing insurance and liability concerns.

The course was developed in Emporia, Kan., by the Flint Hills Resource Conservation and Development Area, Inc. Jan Jantzen of the Flint Hills RC&D facilitated the entire course, which was taught by South Dakota business leaders.

Course participants are from across western South Dakota and have a variety of ideas for their agritourism businesses.
