UW Extension plans sheep shearing school near Pavillion

Wyoming

The University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) has planned a sheep shearing school near Pavillion at the Hearley Dockham feedlot Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

Cost of the training is $75, and participation is by preregistration only, according to Ron Cunningham, UW CES educator in Fremont County.

The school is sponsored by the UW CES Profitable and Sustainable Agriculture Systems initiative team, Wyoming Wool Growers and the Wyoming Business Council. The feedlot is about four miles west of Pavillion on West Pavillion Road.

"The school is on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to healthy, able-bodied men or women who want to learn how to shear and, hopefully, those who want to learn so they start shearing commercially or for their own sheep," said Cunningham.

The school will be taught by Jim Moore, regional sheep specialist for Montana State University (MSU) Extension based in Stanford, Mont., and Mike Schuldt, MSU Extension agent for Blaine County.

To preregister and for more information, call Cunningham at 307-332-2363.
