Dodge City livestock auction reportDodge City Winter Livestock, Inc., reported receipts of 2,934 head, Sept. 23, compared to 2,994 head, last week and 2,932 head, last year, according to USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan. Compared with last week, steers and heifers that were value-added or in thin conditions, also accompanied with good weighing conditions for the buyer, were steady to firm and in excellent demand. However, steers at 300 to 550 pounds were $3 to $6 lower; 550 to 800 pounds were weak to $2 lower; and 800 to 1050 pounds were $2 to $5 lower. Heifers at 300 to 550 pounds were $2 to $4 lower; 550 to 750 pounds were steady to $1 lower; and 750 to 850 pounds were $2 to $4 lower. Slaughter cows were firm to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls were firm to $2 higher. Trade was active and demand very good for value-added or thin-fleshed cattle. The bulk of the sales trade and demand were moderate. Receipts included 70% 600 pounds and over, 27% 600 pounds and under, 3% slaughter cows and bulls with 82 head, early. The feeder supply included 54% steers and 46% heifers.
