OKC West livestock auction report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,985 head Sept. 23, compared to 6,027 head last week and 4,202 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $1 higher, except those at 600 to 700 pounds were $2 to $3 lower. Feeder heifers were steady to $1 lower. Demand was good for feeder cattle following a positive move in the cattle futures. Steer calves were $1 to $3 lower. Heifer calves were $2 to $4 lower. Demand was moderate for calves. Many farmers were in the fields drilling wheat, especially in southern Oklahoma. Those in central Oklahoma waited for the fields to dry out. Quality was average to attractive, few plain. Feeder cattle in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full, few gaunt. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $3 lower. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 340 cows and bulls sold with 56 percent to packers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500 to 600 lbs., 102.00 to 104.50; 675 to 700 lbs., 98.00 to 101.25; 700 to 775 lbs., 96.00 to 99.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 93.00 to 96.25. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 101.00 to 110.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 93.00 to 95.25; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.25 to 96.50; 825 to 875 lbs., 92.50 to 95.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 465 lbs., 97.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 88.00 to 96.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 91.00 to 93.00, calves 625 lbs., 87.00; 700 lbs., thin 93.50; 745 to 800 lbs., 85.00 to 90.75. Boners, 52 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1525 lbs., 46.50 to 49.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 52.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 46.50. Lean, 33 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1375 lbs., 45.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 50.50; low dressing, 37.50 to 43.75. Lights, 33 head, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1000 lbs., 45.00; high dressing, 46.00 to 47.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 40.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 14 head, 1300 to 2300 lbs., 54.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 62.00; low dressing, 52.00 to 53.50; very low, 46.00 to 48.00.

Replacement cows: 3 to 5 years old, 1200 to 1300 lbs., 2 to 3 months bred, high blacks, 810.00 to 850.00; 4 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1375 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 665.00 to 760.00.
