McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,245 head Sept. 22, compared to 2,165 head last week and 2,700 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker cattle were steady with exception of 400- to 500-pound steers were $3 to $5 lower. Feeder cattle were steady to $3 lower. Good attendance of buyers and active trade on better offerings, moderate on balance. Cattle were in thin to fleshy conditions. Continued abundance of soft, Brahman cross cattle on the yards. Receipts included 43% heifers with 23% feeders over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $1 lower. Good attendance of buyers. A total of 380 cows and bulls sold with 60% to packers.
