Joplin cattle auction report

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 4,518 head Sept. 21, compared to 7,382 head last week and 4,511 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 450 pounds were steady to $2 lower, 450 to 650 pounds were $3 to $5 lower, heifers under 450 pounds were steady, 450 to 650 pounds were $1 to $4 lower, yearling steers and heifers were steady to $3 lower. Demand was moderate to light, supply moderate. The heaviest discounts are on middle to heavy weight fleshy, un-weaned calves. Receipts curtailed somewhat as the recent heavy rains caused flooding in some parts of the trade area. The feeder supply included 53% steers, 37% heifers, 10% bulls, with 46% over 600 pounds.
