Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 1,558 head Sept. 21, compared to 787 head last week and 972 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 lower. Feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $6 lower. The supply included 900 feeder calves, 418 feeder yearlings, 70 replacement cows, 149 replacement cows, 21 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 25% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 35% Brahma and Brahma crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 46.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 45.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 44.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.00 to 53.00; low dressing, 39.00 to 43.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 41.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 46.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 40.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 50.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 60.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 345 lbs., 117.00 to 123.00 (118.86); 400 to 445 lbs., 100.00 to 115.00 (104.58); 450 to 498 lbs., 100.00 to 108.00 (103.06); 502 to 545 lbs., 94.00 to 102.50 (97.09); 550 to 598 lbs., 95.00 to 100.00 (97.57); 610 to 635 lbs., 94.00 to 95.00 (94.33); 700 to 720 lbs., 83.00 to 89.00 (85.67).
