Amarillo livestock auction report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,283 head Sept. 22, compared to 2,091 head last week and 1,673 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 500 pounds were steady to $3 higher instances were $6 higher on heifers, over 500 pounds were steady to $3 lower with a light test on yearlings. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 16% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 3% and feeders 80%. The feeder supply included 44% steers and bulls and 56% heifers, with 28% over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 117.00 to 125.25; 400 to 500 lbs., 100.50 to 109.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 96.50 to 100.00; package 917 lbs., 84.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2: few 350 to 400 lbs., 108.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 87.00 to 90.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 84.50 to 87.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 84.50 to 88.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 600 to 650 lbs., 85.00 to 88.50; package 700 lbs., 75.00; package 823 lbs., 78.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 250 to 300 lbs., 111.00 to 116.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 100.00 to 112.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 92.00 to 100.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 84.00 to 85.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250 to 300 lbs., 102.00 to 104.00; 500 to 600 77.00 to 85.50; 675 to 700 lbs., 84.50 to 86.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 81.00 to 84.25, package 706 lb. calves 80.75; part load 867 lbs., 79.00; pen 929 lbs., 79.75. Medium and large frame 2, lot 299 lbs., 93.00; package 719 lbs., 75.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 52.50 to 53.75; low dressing, 47.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 47.50 to 51.00; high dressing, 51.25 to 53.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 44.50 to 47.00; high dressing, 49.00 to 51.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 44.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 42.50 to 45.25; high dressing, 49.00.

Dairy cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1450 to 1650 lbs., 49.00 to 50.50; low dressing, 46.00 to 48.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 45.00 to 47.00; high dressing, 47.00 to 48.50; low dressing, 36.00 to 45.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1400 to 1965 lbs., 55.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 1445 lbs., 49.00. Dairy bulls, low dressing, 1200 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 49.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 660.00 to 810.00 per head; middle-aged to aged, 900 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 525.00 to 680.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged to aged, 900 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, 700.00 to 880.00 per pair.
