Clovis livestock auction report

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, N.M., reported receipts of 1,872 head Sept. 16, compared to 1,811 head last week and 1,400 head last year, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Clovis, N.M.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $3 to $5 higher, heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher, over 600 pounds were $6 to $8 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were $3 to $4 higher. Trade very active, demand good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows were 15% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, bred cows 6%, pairs 7%, feeders 70%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 46% of the run, feeder bulls 1%, heifers 53%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 46%.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1955 lbs., 54.25 to 61.50; high dressing, 1500 to 1855 lbs., 62.50 to 64.25; low dressing, 1000 to 1645 lbs., 49.50 to 53.00. Holstein, slaughter bulls, Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 1635 lbs., 53.75.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 900 to 1200 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 560.00 to 735.00, per head, 950 lbs., 1 to 3 months bred, 425.00 to 465.00, per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 800 to 1150 lbs., with 150- to 350-lb. calves, 750.00 to 935.00 per pair.
