Wisconsin barn fire kills 100 head of cattleSHAWANO, Wis. (AP)--No one was injured in an early morning barn fire in Shawano County that killed about 100 calves and brought firefighters from seven different areas. It took nearly two hours to contain the blaze after responding to the emergency call in the Township of Waukechon early Sept. 12. Shawano Fire Chief Doug Knope says when firefighters arrived at the scene, the property owner and several neighbors were attempting to lead as many cattle out of the barn as possible. Authorities say the 200-foot long barn kept the 100 calves about 3 to 4 months old, hay and propane tanks, which set off several explosions. The investigation continues into how the fire started.
