Advanced wine-grape grower workshop slated Oct. 13 in ComancheTexas An advanced wine-grape growers workshop focusing on post-harvest vineyard issues and practices will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 13 at Brennan Vineyards, 802 South Austin St., in Comanche. Comanche is located about 33 miles southwest of Stephenville and about 22 miles northeast of Brownwood in Central Texas. Presenters will be Fran Pontasch, Texas AgriLife Extension Service viticulture advisor for North Texas, and Fritz Westover, AgriLife Extension viticulture advisor for the Gulf Coast region. "During this workshop we will discuss vineyard management practices that can help mitigate injury to vineyards during post-harvest and winter periods," Pontasch said. She said topics will include proper irrigation, nutrition and fertilization practices, necessary fungicide applications and weed management. The cost for the workshop is $20. Participants are encouraged to register by Oct. 10. "This workshop is part of a series of Advanced Grape Grower workshops conducted across the state by the Texas AgriLife Extension viticulture team," Westover said. "They provide advanced information for those already engaged in commercial wine-grape production, but others interested in wine-grape production and the Texas wine industry can benefit from them as well."
