New events added to 36th Annual NAILE beef cattle division; shows begin Nov. 14

North American International Livestock Exposition officials have announced the 2009 beef cattle division schedule which features shows for 19 different breeds. National shows will be conducted by the Chianina, Hereford, Gelbvieh, Red Angus, Red Poll, Murray Grey, Belted Galloway and Piedmontese breeds. A new show for Fullblood Simmentals has been added to the schedule. A complete listing of all shows is available online at www.livestockexpo.org.

The Charolais, Lowline Angus, Miniature Hereford, Belted Galloway and Red Angus breeds have also added sales to their show plans. They join several other breeds that have traditionally conducted sales during the giant Expo. Many sales offer an online bidding feature. Those interested in learning more about online offerings are encouraged to contact the breed's sale manager.

All cattle shows conducted in the Kentucky Exposition Center's Freedom Hall arena will be video streamed live on the Internet. Anyone with access to a computer and an Internet connection will be able to watch the shows as they take place. Viewers can simply go to the NAILE website home page and log onto the free webcasts.

Junior events and rule change

Again this year, winners from each of the 15 purebred and percentage shows in the Junior Heifer Show division will compete for Supreme Champion status and a $2,500 prize. In addition, Main Trailer Sales and Elite Trailers of Seymour, Ind., will give the winner a free one-year trailer lease. The Supreme Champion class was initiated in 2007.

The Junior Steer Show takes place Nov. 15. The Grand and Reserve Champions are sold at auction at the Sale of Champions on Nov. 19. The four NAILE junior market shows are sponsored by Farm Credit Services of Mid-America.

There are two changes in the Junior Beef Show rules. The date of ownership for the Junior Beef Cattle Shows is now Sept. 1. In addition, Junior Heifer Show exhibitors will no longer need to have a written statement from their 4-H or FFA advisor to verify the project status of their entries.
