Sweepstakes topics for 2010 Finney County Fair photo contests announced

Kansas

The Photography division is the largest category at the Finney County with more than 800 exhibits this year. Photographers who would like to get a head-start for next year are invited to work on these topics for the special photo contests at the 2010 Finney County Fair:

Great American Photo Contest:

Topic: Shooting Wild Sunflowers

Wild sunflowers grow many places in Kansas. Create an image using "wild" sunflowers that grow inside the boundaries of Finney County and bring it to the Fair. Shoot a ditch full, find a field ringed with them or create a wild bouquet but have fun shooting.

Beef Empire Days Photo Contest:

Each June a ten day celebration in honor of the Beef Industry takes place in Garden City. More than 30 different events occur during the celebration. Capture a moment that exemplifies the fun and fervor of Beef Empire Days and bring it to the Fair.

Sandsage Bison Refuge Contest:

"Below the knees at the Refuge" is the theme for the 2010 Finney County Fair Sweepstakes Contest.

This year photographers should plan to shoot the smaller residents of the refuge. Grasshoppers, beetles, ants, lizards, toads, turtles, snakes, burrowing owls, prairie dogs, cottontails and jackrabbits are just some of the residents included in this theme.

Three photography workshops will be held at the Bison Refuge pasture. One each in Fall, Spring and Summer seasons to provide shooting opportunities in the pastures. Workshop information will be shared via Garden City Telegram, local radio stations and the Finney County Fair website. Photographers with an interest in this adventure may contact Pansy Fryman at 620-272-5870 to arrange additional contact arrangements.
