Kansas Alpaca Association to host Alpaca Day

Kansas

A day for the entire family to learn about life with alpacas, watch demos and more.

The Kansas Alpaca Association will hold an 'Alpaca Day' Sept. 26 at the McPherson County 4-H Building at 710 Woodside from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. This event will coincide with National Alpaca Farm Days to be held at participating farms Sept. 26 and 27.

Alpacas are being successfully raised and enjoyed throughout North America and abroad. There are two types of alpacas--the Huacaya and the Suri. They are gentle and easy to handle. Alpacas produce one of the world's finest and most luxurious natural fibers. Soft as cashmere and warmer, lighter and stronger than wool, it comes in more colors than any other fiber producing animal. The joy, ease of care and potential profitability of raising alpacas has attracted people from many walks of life to become breeders.

Visitors of the KSAA Alpaca Day at McPherson will be able to see live demonstrations on how to prepare and spin alpaca fleece and make alpaca products. They can watch a demo movie about everyday activities of life with alpacas, shop alpaca products and raw fleece or purchase their very own alpaca that will be for sale by individual KSAA farm members. They can even take a picture with an alpaca. Concessions will be offered.

Participating KSAA farms include Alpacas of the Heartland of Smith Center; Circle E Alpaca Farm of Hope; Country Home Alpacas of McPherson; Pipe Creek Alpacas of Minneapolis; Prairie Wind Alpacas of Lehigh; Smokey Valley Alpacas of Lindsborg and Valley View Alpacas of Salina.

For more infomation or questions, contact Jodi Stickney of Smokey Valley Alpacas, Lindsborg, Kan., by phone at 620-245-1671.
