Fairview FFA teams qualify for national competition


The Fairview FFA Chapter will be competing in three National FFA Career Development Events during the 82nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 21 to 24. Members will be competing in the National Food Science and Technology CDE, the National Agricultural Communications CDE, and the National Job Interview CDE.

Members of the Food Science and Technology team are Deavon Wedel, Cassie Whiteneck, Tara Burchfield, and Kela Kelln. Participants take an objective test, design and formulate or reformulate a simulated food product, practice quality assurance-Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point principles, conduct a sensory analysis and apply food safety and sanitation principles. Kraft Foods Inc., sponsors the competition.

Members of the Agricultural Communications team are Paige Van Meter, Madison McGolden, Ashlyn Spradlin, Meagan Rhodes, and Cody Slater. The five member team is challenged in all areas of the agricultural communications field. Participants will attend a press conference and complete individual practicums in web design, broadcasting, graphic, design and writing. Students are also tested on their editing and other communication skills. DTN/The Progressive Farmer sponsors the competition.

Chacey Schoeppel will be competing in the Job Interview CDE. The event is designed to recognize outstanding FFA members for their ability to prepare and interview for real-world employment opportunities. Part of the preparation includes creating a cover letter, resume and completing a job application. The National FFA Job Interview CDE is sponsored as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.

The Fairview FFA Chapter is composed of 80 members and is advised by Mindi Clark and Vince McGolden.

The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
