Moran receives first-ever KansasBio Legislative Leadership AwardKansas Congressman Jerry Moran was presented Aug. 20 with the Kansas Bioscience Organization (KansasBio) Legislative Leadership Award for his support of the bioscience industry in Kansas. Moran is the first-ever recipient of this award from KansasBio, which is given to a public official from Kansas who has demonstrated leadership on behalf of the bioscience industry. "Biotechnology is the future of medicine and represents the next stage of treatment for patients," Moran said. "Biologic medicines represent a tremendous growth opportunity for our burgeoning bioscience industry in Kansas. We need to ensure that new biotechnology products continue to be developed and reach patients. I am honored to receive this award from KansasBio, an organization committed to advancing medical research in Kansas." Currently, Moran is working to support the work of more than 110 drug development companies in Kansas and their more than 10,000 employees, while also rigorously protecting patient safety. KansasBio is a not-for-profit organization that serves as the voice of the bioscience industry and research institutions in Kansas. The organization works to connect Kansas university laboratories with pharmaceutical, animal health and crop science companies, entrepreneurial ventures, start-ups and service providers. KansasBio works with leaders across the state to attract and retain bioscience talent, companies and funding. The event was attended by leaders in the business and scientific communities from across the state, including KansasBio members and the Kansas Bioscience Authority.
