West Plains regional cattle sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,107 head Oct. 20, compared to 2,079 head last week and 3,013 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers at 400 to 550 pounds and heifers at 350 to 450 pounds were $3 to $6 higher, and most high quality weaned steers at 450 to 550 pounds and 400- to 450-weight heifers sold $6 to $8 higher with spots of $10 higher. Steer calves over 550 pounds and heifers calves over 450 pounds were mostly steady, steer and heifer yearlings over 650 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Light steers under 400 pounds and heifers under 350 pounds sold unevenly up and down all day depending on quality and condition. The supply was moderate, quality, for the most part, more attractive. The supply consisted of 58% steer and 42% heifers, with nearly 36% over 600 pounds.
