Amarillo livestock auction summaryThe Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,615 head Oct. 20, compared to 1,060 head last week and 1,126 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, and in some instances were $10 higher on weaned steer calves. Limited comparison to last week on feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds, however, a stronger undertone was noted. Trade and demand wre good. Quality was plain through attractive with several drafts of attractive calves on offer. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher with an excellent test of both beef and dairy type cows. Slaughter bulls were steady to firm on a light test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 750-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 20% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, replacement cows 3% and feeders 75%. The feeder supply included 53% steers and bulls and 47% heifers, with approximately 43% of the feeder run over 600 pounds.
