OKC West livestock auction reportThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 6,643 head Oct. 21, compared to 5,029 head last week and 5,068 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were $1 to $3 higher, except 800- to 900-pound steers were steady. Demand was very good for feeder cattle. Steer calves were steady to $3.00 higher. Heifer calves were steady. Quality was plain to average. Cold rains moved across the state creating weigh-ups of gaunt to full. Feeder cattle were in slightly thin to fleshy conditions. The supply included 67% over 600 pounds, 44% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer demand was moderate to good. Replacement cow numbers are limited. A total of 420 cows and bulls sold with 90% going to packers.
