OKC West livestock auction report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 6,643 head Oct. 21, compared to 5,029 head last week and 5,068 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were $1 to $3 higher, except 800- to 900-pound steers were steady. Demand was very good for feeder cattle. Steer calves were steady to $3.00 higher. Heifer calves were steady. Quality was plain to average. Cold rains moved across the state creating weigh-ups of gaunt to full. Feeder cattle were in slightly thin to fleshy conditions. The supply included 67% over 600 pounds, 44% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer demand was moderate to good. Replacement cow numbers are limited. A total of 420 cows and bulls sold with 90% going to packers.

Boners, 20 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1057 to 1705 lbs., 43.50 to 47.50; high dressing, 44.50 to 48.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 42.60. Lean, 136 head, 85 to 90% lean, 980 to 1310 lbs., 37.25 to 42.50; high dressing, 39.25 to 45.00; low dressing, 34.50 to 39.50. Lights, 17 head, 85 to 90% lean, 895 to 1120 lbs., 35.00 to 38.50; low dressing, 29.00 to 34.00; very low, 26.00 to 30.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 12 head, 1340 to 2205 lbs., 51.00 to 57.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 48.50 to 49.50.

Replacement cows: 2 years old, 1000 lbs., 6 months bred, average quality, 700.00; 2 to 4 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 6 months bred, high blacks, 800.00 to 890.00; 4 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 5 to 6 months bred, high blacks, 780.00 to 870.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 610.00 to 700.00; 7 to 10 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 610.00 to 620.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 1200 lbs., with 90-lb. calves, high blacks, 1020.00; 3 years old, 1000 to 1100 lbs., with 90- to 125-lb. calves, average quality, 610.00; 4 to 5 years old, 1000 to 1050 lbs., with 125- to 150-lb. calves, average blacks, 710.00 to 825.00; 10 years old, 1200 lbs., with 90-lb. calves, average quality, 530.00.
