Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction, Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,596 head Oct. 19, compared to 2,039 head last week and 1,018 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were $1 to $2 higher, and under 600 pounds were $4 to $8 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to firm. Trade and demand were moderate to good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 1000-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 6% of the offering, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 93%. The feeder supply included 54% steers, 2% bulls and 44% heifers, with nearly 60% of the run over 600 pounds.

Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 48.25 to 48.75; 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 42.00 to 45.25; high dressing, 51.75; low dressing, 30.00 to 41.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 41.75 to 45.50; low dressing, 37.25 to 41.00; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 35.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1510 to 2105 lbs., 55.75 to 57.25; low dressing, 1315 to 1810 lbs., 48.00 to 53.75.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 845 to 1245 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 450.00 to 600.00 per head.
