Faith livestock sales report

The Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 6,036 head Oct. 19, compared to 3,999 head last week and 6,756 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, steer calves sold mostly steady to $2 higher, instances of $5 to $6 higher on cattle weighing under 450 pounds. Heifer calves sold steady to $2 higher, with instances of $4 higher on cattle weighing over 500 pounds. Several load lots of reputation cattle were offered with greatest interest on replacement quality heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to $1 lower. Demand was good for all classes. The supply consisted of approximately 93% feeder cattle, and the balance slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 60% steers, 38% heifers, and the balance was feeder bulls, with 9% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 383 to 399 lbs., 126.50 to 131.75 (131.11); 414 to 448 lbs., 121.00 to 127.50 (124.15); 419 to 432 lbs., 128.75 to 129.00 (128.86) fancy; 455 to 492 lbs., 110.50 to 119.75 (116.99); 16 head, 456 lbs., 123.50 fancy; 506 to 547 lbs., 101.50 to 108.50 (105.57); 551 to 584 lbs., 101.50 to 107.00 (104.73); 568 to 594 lbs., 109.00 to 111.75 (110.13) value added; 602 to 643 lbs., 98.50 to 104.75 (103.14) calves; 601 to 616 lbs., 104.50 to 105.50 (105.20) value added. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 553 to 593 lbs., 98.50 to 99.25 (98.79).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 17 head, 310 to 325 lbs., 105.00 to 106.00 (105.34); 358 to 393 lbs., 108.00 to 109.00 (108.15); 415 to 447 lbs., 97.00 to 102.00 (100.76); 454 to 497 lbs., 95.00 to 100.50 (97.01); 39 head, 499 lbs., 113.00 replacement; 502 to 546 lbs., 95.00 to 101.50 (97.91); 510 to 539 lbs., 106.00 to 119.00 (113.07) replacement; 558 to 576 lbs., 91.75 to 92.75 (92.47); 553 to 557 lbs., 103.50 to 106.00 (104.61) replacement; 11 head, 603 lbs., 89.50 calves; 20 head, 652 lbs., 88.00 calves; 34 head, 938 lbs., 86.00; 18 head, 957 to 977 lbs., 86.25 to 86.75 (86.33). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 434 lbs., 95.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 35 head, 456 lbs., 107.75; 77 head, 568 lbs., 96.25.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1245 to 1595 lbs., 43.50 to 45.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 42.75. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1090 to 1705 lbs., 43.25 to 45.00; low dressing, 40.25 to 42.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 880 to 1475 lbs., 40.00 to 44.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 39.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1690 to 2065 lbs., 52.25 to 53.50; low dressing, 48.00 to 52.00.

Feeding and replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 890 to 1055 lbs., 76.75 to 84.75; young, 915 to 1430 lbs., 47.50 to 51.75; middle-aged to aged, 1145 to 1265 lbs., 42.25 to 44.50.
