Sioux Falls sheep sales reportThe Sioux Falls Sheep Auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 493 head Oct. 20, compared to 625 head last week and 641 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold mostly $3 lower, instances were $4 lower. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs were too few for an accurate comparison to be made. Most of the receipts were offered in small lots and packages. Buyer attendance was light with light to moderate demand. Receipts included about 65% slaughter lambs, 20% slaughter ewes, 13% feeder lambs and the balance was mostly bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 130 to 148 lbs., 90.00 to 90.50 (90.13). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 140 to 144 lbs., 89.50 to 90.00 (89.96). Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 45 head, 109 lbs., 86.50; 8 head, 133 lbs., 89.50. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 14 head, 134 to 155 lbs., 48.00 to 49.00 (48.85). Good 2 to 4, fleshy, 7 head, 151 lbs., 57.00; 8 head, 172 lbs., 51.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 5 head, 75 lbs., 84.00; 21 head, 75 lbs., 93.00 blackface; 8 head, 79 lbs., 81.00 buck lambs. Medium and large frame 2, 5 head, 44 lbs., 80.00. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 79 lbs., 77.00. Small and medium frame 2, 8 head, 54 lbs., 79.00. Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 6 head, 66 lbs., 90.50. Selection 1 to 2, 11 head, 43 lbs., 80.00; 7 head, 60 lbs., 83.00. Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 11 head, 76 lbs., 45.00 young; 6 head, 102 to 105 lbs., 40.00 to 45.00 (42.46).
