Arkansas cattle sales summary

The weekly summary of livestock sales in Arkansas for the week ending Oct. 15, showed estimated receipts of 5,985 head, compared to 9,628 head last week and 4,997 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold steady, instances were $1 higher. Slaughter bulls sold steady. Feeder calves under 450 pounds sold $2 to $4 lower, weights over 450 pounds uneven, steers steady to $1 higher, heifers and bulls were steady to $2 lower. Received heavy rains throughout the week hampered livestock movement. The supply included 3,540 stocker and feeder calves, 1,355 feeder yearling, 395 replacement cows, 615 slaughter cows and 80 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply included 45% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 48.50; low dressing, 34.00 to 39.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 32.00 to 38.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 6.00 to 42.00; high dressing, 42.00 to 48.00; low dressing, 29.00 to 36.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 31.00 to 37.00; low dressing, 18.00 to 28.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 50.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 50.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 340 lbs., 112.00 to 123.00 (118.89); 350 to 394 lbs., 107.00 to 119.00 (114.43); 400 to 445 lbs., 98.00 to 115.00 (106.27); 450 to 495 lbs., 86.00 to 106.00 (100.00); 500 to 545 lbs., 87.00 to 105.00 (95.77); 523 lbs., load 115.00; 550 to 595 lbs., 85.00 to 101.00 (92.46); 600 to 645 lbs., 82.50 to 96.00 (89.48); 650 to 690 lbs., 81.00 to 94.50 (88.59); 700 to 745 lbs., 79.00 to 91.00 (84.37). Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 650 to 800 lbs., open heiferettes, untested; 2 to 3 years old, 800 to 1000 lbs., open heiferettes, 55.00 to 65.00; 3 to 7 years old, 850 to 1250 lbs., third stage, 650.00 to 750.00 per head; second stage, 600.00 to 700.00 per head, first stage/open, 50.00 to 60.00; 8 to 10 years old, 850 to 1200 lbs., second to third stage, 500.00 to 600.00 per head; thin grazing cows, untested.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 725.00 to 825.00 per pair; 200- to 300-lb. calves, 875.00 to 975.00 per pair few to 1100.00. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 5 to 10 years old, 750 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 575.00 to 675.00 per pair, few down to 540.00. Longhorn pairs, 290.00 to 350.00.
