Trade delegation discusses expanding beef exportsKansas The Kansas trade delegation, led by Governor Mark Parkinson, met with Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou in mid-October as a part of their mission to Taiwan. Governor Parkinson expressed his confidence in the growing partnership between Taiwan and Kansas. "We discussed how to build on our relationship moving forward," said Parkinson. "We both look forward to continued talks and progress on many issues." During their meetings, Governor Parkinson and President Ma discussed numerous topics, including relaxing some current restrictions on Kansas beef exports to Taiwan. Taiwan was the 16th largest market for Kansas products in 2008. Taiwan ranks as the seventh largest export market for U.S. agricultural products and the second largest consumer of U.S. agricultural products per capita. Governor Parkinson and Kansas Department of Commerce Secretary David Kerr are leading a trade mission to Taiwan from Oct. 18 to 25 to advance Kansas' business ties to the country. Governor Parkinson was invited to Taiwan to deliver the welcoming address at the Green Energy Exhibition in Taipei, one of the region's largest green energy conferences.
