Range, pasture conditions rated mostly fair to poorNew Mexico There were 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Oct. 18, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, New Mexico Field Office, Oct. 19. Topsoil moisture was 26 percent very short, 43 percent short and 31 percent adequate. Wind damage was 2 percent light and 1 percent moderate. Alfalfa conditions were mostly good with 95 percent of the fifth cutting complete, 64 percent of the sixth cutting completed and 24 percent of the seventh cutting completed. Cotton conditions ranged from fair to excellent with 100 percent setting bolls, 84 percent bolls opening and 15 percent harvested. Corn conditions were mostly good with 92 percent dent, 67 percent mature and 31 percent of the grain harvested. Irrigated sorghum conditions were mostly good with 46 percent mature and 4 percent harvested for grain. Dry sorghum conditions were mostly poor with 95 percent coloring, 36 percent mature and 15 percent harvested for grain. Irrigated winter wheat conditions were mostly good with 89 percent emerged. Dry winter wheat conditions were mostly fair. Peanut conditions were mostly fair with 39 percent harvested. Chile conditions ranged from fair to excellent with 99 percent of the green chile harvested, and 29 percent of the red chile harvested. Apple conditions were mostly fair with 65 percent harvested. Pecan conditions ranged from fair to excellent.
