Federal Beef lawsuit for Rapid City fire dismissedSIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP)--Federal Beef Processors has resolved its issues with the insurance companies it sued for a January 2002 fire that destroyed the Rapid City packing plant. The 2004 complaint sought more than $20 million in claims for the building, machinery and other costs. Defendants included Mt. Hawley, Zurich American, Evanston, Admiral and Lexington insurance companies, Royal Indemnity Co. and GAB Robins North America. According to federal court documents, mediation was scheduled for May with the last defendant but was canceled and a judge dismissed the case. The cause of the fire that put 400 people out of work was never determined and the site was sold to developers.
