2009 MU Swine Institute set for Nov. 10

Missouri

The University of Missouri Extension Commercial Agriculture Program's 2009 Swine Institute will take place Nov. 10 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Columbia.

This year's theme is "Looking for the Rainbow," a reference to last year's theme, "Weathering the Storm." The program will address economic issues affecting the Missouri swine industry and provide management advice to help producers in these challenging times.

Institute topics will include market outlooks, the evolution of the swine industry, tips on hot-button issues in the industry and strategies to help producers monitor and manage with more efficiency.

Presenters include MU Extension economist Ron Plain and the Commercial Agriculture Program swine focus team; Melvin Brees of the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute; and Teng Lim of Purdue University, who will report on the EPA's national air-monitoring program.

The Swine Institute begins at noon with a luncheon featuring MU Director of Athletics Mike Alden. The event adjourns at 5 p.m.

For registration information, contact Erica Lovercamp at 573-882-9552 or lovercampe@missouri.edu. For additional details on event programming and other inquiries, contact Katrina Turner at 573-882-0378 or turnerka@missouri.edu.
