Dodge City cattle sales report

Dodge City Winter Livestock, Inc., reported receipts of 1,788 head, Oct. 14, compared to 2,516 head, last week and 867 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 700 to 925 pounds were $2 to $4 higher. Heifers over 700 pounds were not enough for a market test, although a steady undertone was noted. On a light test, steers at 350 to 700 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Heifers, at 300 to 700 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter cows were firm to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were not enough for a test, all were low dressing. Receipts included 78% over 600 pounds, 19% under 600 pounds, and 3% slaughter cows and bulls with 57 head, early. The feeder supply consisted of 63% steers and 37% heifers.

Calves 650 to 700 lbs., 93.50 to 94.50 (93.81); 54 head, 732 lbs., 93.50; 61 head, 798 lbs., 89.75. Fleshy 24 head, 584 lbs., 97.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 397 lbs., 113.00; 7 head, 490 lbs., 104.50; 500 to 550 lbs., 100.00 to 102.00 (101.54); 5 head, 563 lbs., 98.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 90.00 to 94.75 (93.07); 8 head, 693 lbs., 93.00; 45 head, 744 lbs., 93.50; 28 head, 812 lbs., 90.25. Feeding cows: Heiferettes 50.00 to 71.00 (59.00).

Baby calves: Steers and bulls, per head, individual 70 lbs., 165.00; individual 180 lbs., 200.00; individual 205 lbs., 275.00. Heifers, individual 110 lbs., 75.00; 3 head, 186 lbs., 235.00; individual 240 lbs., 225.00; individual 255 lbs., 260.00.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 47.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.25 to 49.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 43.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 43.00 to 48.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 42.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, low dressing, 52.00 to 54.00. Yield grade 3, low dressing 44.50 to 48.50.
