West Plains livestock sales reportThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 1,800 head Oct. 13, compared to 2,397 head last week and 2,248 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers under 800 pounds were steady to $3 lower, although several higher quality weaned steers at 550 to 650 pounds were firm to $2 higher. Heifers under 700 pounds were $1 to $3 lower, spots were $3 to $5 on 4 weight heifers. A limited test on steer yearlings over 800 pounds was steady and heifers over 700 pounds were steady to $1 lower. The supply was light, shortened somewhat by producers not being able to get them out due to muddy corrals and catch pens. Demand was unevenly light to moderate. The supply consisted of 51% steers, 8% bulls and 41% heifers, with nearly 35% weighed over 600 pounds.
