OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,029 head Oct. 14, compared to 5,101 head last week and 2,895 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $1 to $4 higher, except those at 600 to 700 pounds were $1 lower. Feeder heifers were lightly tested and steady to $2 higher. Demand was moderate to good for feeders. Steer calves over 500 pounds were steady to $2 lower, and under 500 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Heifer calves were mostly steady. Demand was moderate for heavy weight calves but very good for light weight calves suitable for early wheat. Dismal weather continues across the state with damp conditions and temperatures in the upper 50s. Quality was plain through attractive. Feeder cattle were in medium to fleshy conditions with average to full weigh-ups. The supply included 64% over 600 pounds, 30% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were $2 higher. Packer demand was moderate to good. Replacement cow numbers were limited but demand was improving. A total of 326 cows and bulls sold with 60% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 115.00 to 122.00; 495 lbs., thin 110.00; 525 to 550 lbs., 96.00 to 98.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 93.25 to 94.50; 725 to 775 lbs., 91.00 to 93.25; 800 to 900 lbs., 89.50 to 92.75. Medium and large frame 2, 475 to 525 lbs., 96.00 to 101.00; 625 to 650 lbs., 93.00 to 94.50; few lots 725 to 775 lbs., 90.00; 800 to 875 lbs., 87.50 to 90.50; few lots 950 to 985 lbs., 82.50. Holsteins, large frame 3, 300 lbs., 61.00; 600 lbs., 62.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 250 to 275 lbs., 106.00 to 107.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 98.00 to 106.00, 300 lbs., fancy 113.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 92.25 to 98.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 88.00 to 93.00, few lots fleshy 85.00; 650 to 685 lbs., 80.00 to 85.50; yearlings, 625 to 700 lbs., 90.50 to 93.00; 700 to 735 lbs., 86.25 to 87.75; 800 to 865 lbs., 77.50 to 84.50; 915 lbs., 75.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 550 to 600 lbs., 82.50 to 89.50; 650 to 700 lbs., 86.00 to 91.25; 765 lbs., 83.00; 825 lbs., 78.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 29 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1150 to 1800 lbs., 44.00 to 47.00; high dressing, 48.50 to 49.50; low dressing, 39.00 to 42.50. Boners, 62 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1725 lbs., 43.50 to 46.75; high dressing, 47.50; low dressing, 39.50 to 43.00. Lean, 53 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 40.50 to 43.50; high dressing, 44.00 to 46.50; low dressing, 32.50 to 40.00. Lights, 17 head, 85 to 90% lean, 850 to 1000 lbs., 40.50; low dressing, 35.50 to 39.25; very low, 30.00 to 34.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 16 head, 1400 to 1950 lbs., 53.50 to 57.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 58.50; low dressing, 50.50 to 53.00; very low, 48.00 to 49.00.

Replacement cows: 1 to 4 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 5 months bred, average blacks, 790.00 to 800.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1200 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 725.00 to 820.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 years old, 800 lbs., with 350-lb. calves, average blacks bred back, 900.00; 5 to 7 years old, 975 to 1050 lbs., with 75- to 300-lb. calves, average blacks, 800.00 to 850.00; 9 years old, 1000 lbs., with 150 -to 175-lb. calves, thin blacks, 710.00.
