OKC West livestock sales reportThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,029 head Oct. 14, compared to 5,101 head last week and 2,895 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers were $1 to $4 higher, except those at 600 to 700 pounds were $1 lower. Feeder heifers were lightly tested and steady to $2 higher. Demand was moderate to good for feeders. Steer calves over 500 pounds were steady to $2 lower, and under 500 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Heifer calves were mostly steady. Demand was moderate for heavy weight calves but very good for light weight calves suitable for early wheat. Dismal weather continues across the state with damp conditions and temperatures in the upper 50s. Quality was plain through attractive. Feeder cattle were in medium to fleshy conditions with average to full weigh-ups. The supply included 64% over 600 pounds, 30% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were $2 higher. Packer demand was moderate to good. Replacement cow numbers were limited but demand was improving. A total of 326 cows and bulls sold with 60% going to packers.
