Faith livestock sales reportThe Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 3,999 head Oct. 12, compared to 2,175 head last week and 1,991 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, steer calves sold steady to $2 higher, instances of $5 to $6 higher on 400-pound cattle. Heifer calves sold mostly steady with a slight undertone noted on cattle weighing under 500 pounds. Greatest buyer interest was in steer cattle weighing under 550 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady on limited offerings. Demand was good for all classes. The supply consisted of approximately 94% feeder cattle, and the balance was slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder cattle supply included 68% steers, 32% heifers, with 6% weighing over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 407 to 434 lbs., 116.00 to 122.00 (117.27); 453 to 496 lbs., 109.50 to 119.00 (117.12); 501 to 546 lbs., 102.50 to 110.50 (105.91); 553 to 596 lbs., 99.00 to 104.60 (102.05); 600 to 612 lbs., 98.50 to 102.85 (102.10) calves; 84 head, 658 lbs., 98.10 calves. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 432 lbs., 105.00 to 112.00 (110.62); 462 to 495 lbs., 104.25 to 108.50 (105.31); 6 head, 536 lbs., 96.50. Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 322 lbs., 105.00; 387 to 396 lbs., 99.00 to 103.00 (102.04); 426 to 439 lbs., 95.75 to 100.25 (98.07); 451 to 495 lbs., 94.85 to 99.75 (97.18); 500 to 547 lbs., 91.25 to 100.00 (93.13); 17 head, 558 lbs., 101.50 replacement; 553 to 557 lbs., 90.00 to 96.00 (94.13); 17 head, 849 lbs., 86.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 35 head, 490 lbs., 92.75. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1450 to 2255 lbs., 44.75 to 46.00; low dressing, 42.25 to 43.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1185 to 1565 lbs., 44.50 to 46.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 43.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 990 to 1605 lbs., 41.50 to 44.00; high dressing, 45.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 40.50. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1710 to 2035 lbs., 52.50 to 54.50; low dressing, 47.50 to 52.25. Feeding and replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 950 to 1010 lbs., 81.50 to 83.50; young, 925 to 1330 lbs., 47.50 to 50.50.
