Governor's Agricultural Advisory Board to meet October 28

The Governor's Agricultural Advisory Board will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 28, at the Livingston Family Center at 1830 N. Main in Kingman.

The agenda for the meeting includes:

--A report from Acting Secretary of Agriculture Josh Svaty on agency activities, the department's budget, legislative issues, the 25x'25 initiative, the Kansas State Fair, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture meeting, and the Water Rights Conservation Program;

--A report on agricultural emergency preparedness and response issues;

--A report from the Kansas Department of Commerce agriculture marketing division;

--Reports on the specialty crop block grant, organic cost-share grant, and USDA's "Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food" campaign.

Also, guest speaker John Smith, Pixius Communications, LLC, will discuss a rural broadband project.

The meeting will include time for public comment.

Individuals who would like a meeting agenda, or would like to attend the meeting personally, should notify Ginger Patterson at 785-296-3902.

Individuals who want to attend the meeting and who require special accommodations must make their needs known to Patterson at least three days prior to the meeting.

The Governor's Agricultural Advisory Board is made up of nine members from across the state who were appointed by the governor to serve in an advisory capacity to the governor, the secretary of agriculture and the agriculture marketing division of the Kansas Department of Commerce.
