Bids end day higher

Grain and soybean bids were sharply higher on the Columbus Day holiday, according to the National Grain Market Summary Oct. 12.

Wheat saw spillover support from other grains and fund buying. Corn and soybeans saw gains on a weaker dollar, higher crude oil and freezing weather in the NW Corn Belt.

Wheat was mostly 21 to 33 cents higher. Corn was 17 to 21 cents higher. Sorghum was 33 to 34 cents higher. Soybeans were 34 to 45 cents higher.

In the futures close, Kansas City July wheat was $5.11, up 11 cents.

Terminal wheat bids, paid for truck delivery, included Kansas City, $4.46 to $4.51, up 26 cents; Minneapolis, $5.45 1/2, up 21 1/ cents; Portland, $4.60 to $4.73, up 15 to 13 cents; St. Louis, $3.09, up 33 cents.

Terminal corn bids, U.S. No. 2 yellow, price paid for truck deliver, included: Kansas City, $3.58 to $3.59, up 19 cents; Minneapolis, $3.51 1/4, up 19 cents; southern Iowa, $3.61 1/4 to $3.68 1/4, up 20 to 21 cents; Omaha was unavailable.

Terminal soybean bids, U.S. No. 1, price paid for truck delivery, included: Kansas City, $9.99, up 35 cents; Minneapolis, $9.80, up 34 1/2 cents; southern Iowa, $9.94 to $10.17, up 36 to 44 cents; central Illinois processors, $10.09 to $10.24, up 35 to 45 cents.

Kansas City wheat prices Oct. 12, spot, fob track, included: No. 1 hard red winter wheat, ordinary protein, $5 to $5.45, up 19 cents; 12% protein, $5.44 to $5.59, up 14 cents; 13% protein, $5.53 to $5.79, up 14 cents; 14% protein, $5.69 to $5.84, up 14 cents. U.S. No. 2 soft red winter wheat was $4.75 to $5.25, up 14 cents. U.S. No. 2 white corn was $3.84 to $3.92, unchanged.
