Clovis livestock auction report

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, N.M., reported receipts of 3,643 head Oct. 7, compared to 3,586 head last week and 2,923 head last year, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Clovis, N.M.

Compared to last month, Holstein steers were $3 to $5 lower. Compared to last week feeder steers under 500 pounds were steady, 500 to 700 pounds were $6 to $8 lower, over 700 pounds were $1 lower. Heifers were $1 to $3 lower, slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $3 lower. Trade was active, demand was good. The bulk supply was Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows 13% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, bred cows 2%, pairs 2%, feeders 82%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 37% of the run, Holstein steers 26%, heifers 35%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 39%.

Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 39.75 to 44.75; low dressing, 34.25 to 38.25; 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 38.00 to 43.25; low dressing, 30.50 to 35.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1305 to 2240 lbs., 52.00 to 58.00; high dressing, individual 1805 lbs., 60.50; low dressing, 1085 to 1640 lbs., 41.50 to 48.75. Holstein slaughter bulls, Yield grade 1 to 2, 1610 to 1910 lbs., 51.75 to 55.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 905 to 1140 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 560.00 to 660.00, per head; young to middle-aged cows, 780 to 1095 lbs., 1 to 3 months bred, 350.00 to 560.00, middle-aged to aged, 780 to 1115 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 515.00 to 540.00, per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 800 to 1115 lbs., with 100- to 170-lb. calves, 700.00 to 740.00, per pair; middle-aged to aged, 700 to 1030 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, 660.00 to 670.00, per pair.
