Arkansas livestock sales summary

The weekly summary of livestock sales in Arkansas for the week ending Oct. 8, showed estimated receipts of 9,225 head, compared to 14,508 head last week and 5,563 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold unevenly, nearly steady. Slaughter bulls sold steady to $1 lower. Feeders sold weak to $4 lower. Reduced receipts this week were due to absence of two reporters. The supply was composed of 5,500 stocker and feeder calves, 2,280 feeder yearlings, 510 replacement cows, 835 slaughter cows and 100 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 42% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 34.00 to 39.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 38.00 to 44.00; high dressing, 44.00 to 52.50; low dressing, 32.00 to 38.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 36.00 to 42.00; high dressing, 42.00 to 47.00; low dressing, 29.00 to 36.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 29.00 to 35.00; low dressing, 18.00 to 28.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 49.00 to 56.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 49.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 348 lbs., 115.00 to 127.00 (120.06); 350 to 398 lbs., 111.00 to 124.00 (119.42); 400 to 448 lbs., 90.00 to 124.00 (110.47); 450 to 495 lbs., 87.50 to 109.00 (100.72); 500 to 548 lbs., 85.00 to 104.00 (95.44); 550 to 598 lbs., 85.00 to 105.00 (92.01); 600 to 646 lbs., 82.00 to 93.50 (88.15); 650 to 695 lbs., 82.25 to 90.50 (86.51); 700 to 745 lbs., 78.00 to 88.00 (83.20); 750 to 784 lbs., 78.00 to 88.00 (84.10). Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 725.00 to 825.00 per pair; 200- to 300-lb. calves, 925.00 to 1025.00 per pair few to 1200.00. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 5 to 10 year old, 750 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 600.00 to 700.00 per pair few down to 540.00.
