Novak receives scholarship from Texas Plant Protection AssociationTexas Sarah Novak, a junior agricultural economics major at Texas A&M University, has been named the 2009 Texas Plant Protection Association scholarship winner. Novak, of Floresville, was awarded the $1,000 scholarship recently at the Brazos Center, site of the 2009 Texas Plant Protection Conference scheduled Dec. 2 and 3. The organization gives a scholarship annually and holds its conference each year in College Station addressing the latest trends and issues affecting agricultural production. Presenting Novak the scholarship were Dr. Alan Sams, executive associate dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M; Bob Sasser, Texas Plant Protection Association executive director; Ray Smith of Biological Research Services and Texas Plant Protection Association board chairman; Dr. Brad Minton, Syngenta Crop Protection and Texas Plant Protection Association president; Dr. John Nichols, head of the department of agricultural economics at Texas A&M; and Dr. Ron Lacewell, assistant vice chancellor, Texas AgriLife Research and Texas Plant Protection Association board member.
