Clover Classic Golf Tournament benefits 4-H programOklahoma Golf enthusiasts from around the state will soon have the opportunity to not only play the sport they enjoy, but also benefit thousands of students across the state. The Oklahoma 4-H Foundation is hosting the annual Clover Classic Golf Tournament Oct. 12 at Winter Creek Country Club near Blanchard. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and players will have a continental breakfast and lunch provided. Joe Dorman, Oklahoma 4-H Foundation Golf Committee co-chair, said the tournament has been a popular event since its inception several years ago. "I've had the chance to play in this tournament several times and it's a great feeling to know this benefits such a worthy program," Dorman said. "Every bit of this money goes back to scholarships and programs which benefit 4-H'ers from all over the state of Oklahoma." Lindsey Sherrer, co-chair of the Clover Classic concurred with this sentiment. "Participation in the Clover Classic supports the Oklahoma Youth Development Program for 4-H," Sherrer said. "4-H, which some people may not realize is the largest youth organization in the world, empowers more than 141,000 youth in our state to reach their full potential by working and learning in partnership with caring adults. We're very excited about this year's tournament as it occurs while we're celebrating the centennial of 4-H." Golfers have the opportunity to participate at various levels of sponsorship for the tournament. Gold sponsors can play for $1,000 and receive registration for four golfers and sponsor one of the competition holes, two golf carts and the eligibility to have first pick on some of the donated prizes; a four-person team and hole sponsorship is available for $750; four-player team sponsorship is $600; individual hole sponsorship is $200 each; and individual players can play or be sponsored for $150. Each of these levels also offers additional benefits associated with the tournament and the 4-H program. "We've had some very generous individuals and companies donate prizes and gifts for this year's tournament," said Gwen Shaw, Oklahoma 4-H Foundation Golf Committee member. "Not only will golfers get to play on a beautiful course, but they'll also be eligible to win some great prizes such as gift cards, golf bags and accessories, clothing, tools and home accessories. We also promise one of the best goodie bags available for tournaments in the state of Oklahoma for each player who participates."
