Ft. Smith livestock auction reportThe Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 906 head Oct. 5, compared to 1,028 head last week and 602 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark. Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $4 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady with heavier weights $2 lower. The supply included 497 feeder calves, 290 feeder yearlings, 30 replacement cows, 79 slaughter cows, 10 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 60% steers and bulls with 40% heifers. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 39.00 to 43.50; high dressing, 44.00 to 48.00; low dressing, 34.00 to 38.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 37.00 to 41.50; high dressing, 42.00 to 46.00; low dressing, 32.00 to 36.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 35.00 to 39.50; high dressing, 40.00 to 44.00; low dressing, 30.00 to 34.50. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 52.50 to 56.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 61.00.
