Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 4,454 head Oct. 1, compared to 4,538 head last week and 3,038 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week's sale, feeder lambs weighing 70 to 90 pounds sold mostly steady to $2 higher. Lighter feeder lambs sold mostly $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter ewes were mostly steady, with medium and thin ewes selling $1 to $2 lower. Buyer attendance was good with moderate demand. The supply consisted of approximately 24% slaughter ewes and bucks, 76% feeders. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 128 head, 165 lbs., 30.50. Utility 1 to 2, Medium fleshed, 145 to 146 lbs., 23.50 to 24.00 (23.94). Cull 1 to 2, thin fleshed, 123 to 134 lbs., 13.25 to 16.00 (15.94). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 52 to 55 lbs., 111.50 to 115.00 (113.78); 62 to 69 lbs., 107.00 to 111.50 (110.04); 76 to 78 lbs., 104.25 to 109.00 (108.19); 80 to 88 lbs., 101.75 to 103.50 (102.76); 39 head, 127 lbs., 84.75. Medium frame 1 to 2, 46 to 48 lbs., 91.00 to 96.00 (93.90); 61 to 63 lbs., 105.00 to 106.00 (105.68); 81 to 88 lbs., 94.00 to 98.75 (96.30).
