Arkansas livestock sales summary

The weekly summary of livestock sales in Arkansas for the week ending Oct. 1, showed estimated receipts of 13,545 head, compared to 14,229 head last week and 8,449 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls sold steady. Number 1 feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher. Number 2 steers and heifers and all bulls sold steady to $2 lower. The supply consisted of 8,105 stocker and feeder calves, 3,390 feeder yearlings, 650 replacement cows, 1,245 slaughter cows and 155 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 44% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 40.00 to 46.00; high dressing, 46.00 to 52.50; low dressing, 36.00 to 40.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 39.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 52.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 39.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 35.00 to 41.00; high dressing, 41.00 to 48.50; low dressing, 30.00 to 35.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 27.00 to 33.00; low dressing, 18.00 to 26.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 50.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 49.00.

Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 5 to 10 years old, 750 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 550.00 to 650.00 per pair; few down to 375.00.
