Wet fields limit fieldwork

Missouri

Wet conditions from the previous week, plus heavy rains at the end of the week ending Nov. 1, limited fieldwork across the state and created some localized flooding, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Missouri Field Office, Nov. 2.

Topsoil moisture, statewide, is rated 41 percent adequate and 59 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture is rated 62 percent adequate and 38 percent surplus. There were 1.2 days suitable for fieldwork. Fall tillage is 9 percent complete, 27 days behind last year and the normal of 39 percent.

Temperatures averaged 2 degrees below average to average across the state. Rainfall averaged 2.81 inches for the week. The east-central and south-central districts recorded the most precipitation with 4.22 inches, while the northwest district reported 1.03 inches. Oregon county reported 6.54 inches during the week.

Ninety-eight percent of the corn is mature. Corn harvest is 49 percent complete, 10 days behind last year, and 36 days behind the normal of 85 percent. The moisture content of corn harvested is 19 percent statewide with a range of 15 to 22 percent. Corn condition is rated 4 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 16 percent excellent.

Ninety-six percent of soybeans have dropped leaves, with 85 percent of the soybeans rated mature. Soybean harvest is 33 percent complete, 9 days behind last year and 22 days behind a normal of 72 percent. Soybean condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 15 percent excellent.

Cotton opening bolls is at 94 percent. Cotton harvest is 17 percent, 29 days behind last year and 33 days behind the normal of 77 percent. Cotton condition is 14 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.

Rice harvest is 78 percent complete, 19 days behind last year and 25 days behind a normal of 98 percent.

Sorghum mature is at 92 percent, 1 day behind last year and 14 days behind normal. The sorghum harvest is 32 percent complete, 24 days behind last year and 36 days behind the normal of 76 percent. Sorghum condition is rated 5 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.

Winter wheat seeding is 21 percent complete, 18 days behind last year and 24 days behind a normal of 70 percent. Emergence is at 16 percent, 10 days behind last year and 16 days behind normal.

Pasture condition is rated 3 percent poor, 22 percent fair, 65 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Supplies of hay and roughage are rated 1 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus. Stock water supplies are 67 percent adequate and 33 percent surplus.
