Faith livestock sales report

The Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 6,265 head Nov. 2, compared to 4,856 head last week and 5,621 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, steer calves sold mostly steady to $2 lower, with full decline seen on cattle weighing over 600 pounds. Heifer calves sold unevenly steady. Yearling feeder steers and heifers were too lightly tested to for an accurate market trend. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to $1 higher. Demand was moderate to good for all classes. The supply consisted of 93% feeder cattle, balance slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder cattle supply included 59% steers, 41% heifers, with 15% weighed over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 357 to 399 lbs., 118.00 to 125.00 (122.49); 405 to 446 lbs., 115.00 to 121.50 (119.64); 453 to 498 lbs., 107.50 to 115.50 (111.88); 170 head, 481 lbs., 121.00 value added; 500 to 549 lbs., 102.50 to 110.00 (106.70); 50 head, 505 lbs., 113.25 fancy; 518 to 530 lbs., 111.00 to 114.75 (113.73) value added; 553 to 590 lbs., 100.00 to 107.00 (105.01); 616 to 645 lbs., 99.50 to 101.50 (100.19) calves; 17 head, 688 lbs., 93.50 calves; 663 to 664 lbs., 101.00 to 103.10 (102.55) fancy; 13 head, 729 lbs., 97.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 22 head, 447 lbs., 108.75; 466 to 496 lbs., 100.75 to 106.25 (103.86); 33 head, 525 lbs., 100.25; 574 to 587 lbs., 99.00 to 99.50 (99.25). Large frame 1, 12 head, 459 lbs., 106.75; 31 head, 552 lbs., 97.50; 19 head, 625 lbs., 97.00 calves.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1210 to 1755 lbs., 42.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 46.50 to 48.25; low dressing, 40.50 to 41.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1055 to 1620 lbs., 41.50 to 45.75; high dressing, 46.00 to 48.50; low dressing, 37.25 to 40.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1085 to 1475 lbs., 39.75 to 43.50; low dressing, 34.50 to 39.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1725 to 2180 lbs., 51.50 to 55.75; low dressing, 47.50 to 49.75.

Feeding cows: Cows returning to the country, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 915 to 1100 lbs., 78.50 to 84.50; 3 years old, 910 to 1110 lbs., 57.00 to 65.00; young, 980 to 1455 lbs., 48.00 to 56.00; middle aged to aged, 1090 to 1505 lbs., 43.75 to 47.00, thin 36.75 to 40.00.
