Wet fields limit harvest, fieldwork progressMissouri Wet soil conditions limited harvest and fieldwork progress during the week ending Nov. 22, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Missouri Field Office, Nov. 23. Atchison reported 6 inches of snow early last week. Topsoil moisture, statewide, is rated 57 percent adequate and 43 percent surplus. There were 2.2 days suitable for fieldwork. Fall tillage is 32 percent complete, 26 days behind last year and the normal of 66 percent. Grain movement from farm to elevator is moderate to heavy with 40 percent light, 37 percent moderate and 16 percent heavy. Off-farm storage availability rates 46 percent short, 51 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. On-farm storage availability rates 40 percent short, 56 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. With the good crops this year, both off-farm and on-farm storage is about 40 percent short. Corn harvest is 76 percent complete, 9 days behind last year, and 36 days behind the normal of 95 percent. The most progress was made in the northeast and central districts of the state. The moisture content of corn harvested averaged 18 percent statewide with a range of 15 to 19 percent. Soybean harvest is 87 percent complete, 2 days behind last year and 9 days behind a normal of 94 percent. Producers continue to move into corn as they complete soybean harvest. Cotton harvest is 78 percent complete, 26 days behind last year and 20 days behind the normal of 94 percent. The sorghum harvest advanced 13 points statewide during the week to 81 percent complete, 7 days behind last year and 17 days behind the normal of 95 percent. Harvest in the north-central and southwest districts progressed 36 and 24 points, respectively. Winter wheat seeding is 61 percent complete, 21 days behind last year and 26 days behind a normal of 92 percent. Seeding increased 17 points in the southeast district. Emergence is at 44 percent, 16 days behind last year and 23 days behind normal. Winter wheat condition is 1 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 61 percent fair, 31 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. The northwest, northeast, and west-central districts have 10 percent or more of winter wheat in poor to very poor conditions. Pasture condition is rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 63 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.
