Advanced wine-grape grower workshop slated Dec. 4 in Hill CountryTexas An advanced grower workshop for those involved in commercial wine-grape production will be presented from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 4 by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service office in Fredericksburg. The workshop will take place at Granite Hill Vineyard, 600 Willow City Ranch Rd. in Willow City, just north of Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country. The workshop's presenters will be Penny Adams, AgriLife Extension's Hill Country viticulture advisor, and Fran Pontasch, AgriLife Extension's North Texas viticulture advisor. "This workshop will focus on identification of grapevine BOT canker and retraining cordons, along with vineyard management practices that can help mitigate incidence and spread of these fungal trunk pathogens," said Adams. She said winter injury to grapevines would also be covered, along with steps for treating weather-damaged vines. The cost for the workshop is $20, and participants are encouraged to register by Nov. 30. Registration after this date will be $25. The workshop is part of a series of advanced trainings conducted across the state by AgriLife Extension's viticulture team, Adams said.
