Insect, Disease Management School Dec. 3 in Colby

Kansas

Over the last several years, some insect and disease problems have never gone away, including leaf rust and Hessian fly in wheat, while others occur sporadically, such as ear rots in corn and stem borer in sunflowers. That is why it is important to keep updated on pests that threaten our crops.

Thomas County Extension along with Sunflower Extension District are sponsoring an Insect and Disease Management School at the 4-H building in Colby on Dec. 3 to aid producers in identifying and managing these disease problems. We will be offering commercial applicators CEU's with 7 hours for the 1A certification along with the 1 core hour needed for renewal. Continuing education credits for CCAs will also be available. Even though the school is all day, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., it has been designed to allow producers to attend the sessions of interest to them.

The morning covers both insect and disease management of corn, grain sorghum, and soybeans. Following the free lunch, the afternoon session will cover regulations along with insect and disease management of sunflowers and wheat. By coming at 8 a.m., you can get updates on corn, soybeans, grain sorghum, sunflowers and wheat.

Call, stop by, or e-mail (milliman@ksu.edu) the Extension Office in Colby at 785-462-4582 or in Goodland at 785-890-4880 for a copy of the day's schedule. We would appreciate pre-registering by Nov. 24 to make lunch arrangements. The lunch, refreshments, and materials are being sponsored by Crop Production Services and Frontier Ag, Inc.
