Amarillo livestock sales report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,392 head Nov. 17, compared to 2,277 head last week and 1,118 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were steady to $1 lower, offerings under 600 pounds mostly were $2 to $4 lower, limited test on calves under 500 pounds. Trade and demand were moderate. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $2 higher. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 750-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 14% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 5%, and feeders 80%. The feeder supply included 54% steers and bulls and 46% heifers, with approximately 56% of the feeder run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 400 to 500 lbs., 106.50 to 109.00; two packages 512 to 517 lbs., 100.50 to 102.50, lot 584 lbs., 94.50; 600 to 650 lb. calves 89.75 to 94.00, 650 to 700 lb. calves 84.25 to 89.75; 700 to 800 lb. calves 85.25 to 89.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 350 lbs., 110.00 to 111.00, 350 to 400 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 94.00 to 104.50; 500 to 550 lbs., 90.00 to 95.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves 84.00 to 87.00; lot 747 lbs., 89.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 350 to 400 lbs., 86.00 to 90.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 82.50 to 90.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 76.00 to 81.00; part load 845 lbs., 77.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, small lot 394 lbs., 100.25; few 450 to 500 lbs., 89.00 to 94.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 83.50 to 90.00, 580 to 590 lbs., fleshy 79.50 to 80.00; 600 to 700 lb. calves 80.50 to 84.75; few 750 to 775 lbs., fleshy 78.00 to 80.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 350 to 400 lbs., 90.00 to 95.00; few 400 to 500 lbs., 82.00 to 84.00; few small packages 500 to 600 lbs., 80.00 to 86.25; 600 to 700 lb. calves 79.00 to 82.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 81.50 to 82.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 350 to 400 lbs., 84.00 to 86.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 77.00 to 84.00; package 531 lbs., 79.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 74.50 to 77.00; package 762 lbs., 77.50. Holstein heifers and heiferettes, Large frame 3, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 52.00 to 63.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 44.50 to 46.00; low dressing, 38.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 42.50 to 45.00; high dressing, 46.00 to 47.00; low dressing, 41.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 36.50 to 38.00; high dressing, 44.50; low dressing, 35.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 33.00 to 34.50; low dressing, 28.00 to 29.50.

Holstein slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1700 lbs., 42.00 to 44.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 47.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 35.00 to 40.00; high dressing, 41.00 to 45.50; low dressing, 27.00 to 35.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 49.50.

Holstein slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 3, 1400 to 1900 lbs., 45.25 to 48.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 800 to 1050 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 325.00 to 650.00 per head, 900 to 1350 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, 640.00 to 785.00 per head; middle-aged to aged, 900 to 1100 lbs., cows 3 to 6 months bred, 350.00 to 585.00 per head, 800 to 1200 lbs., cows 6 to 7 months bred, 450.00 to 610.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 900 to 1200 lbs., with 75- to 250-lb. calves, 750.00 to 910.00 per pair; middle-aged to aged, 1000 to 1200 lbs., with 75- to 200-lb. calves, 700.00 to 800.00 per pair.
