Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 329 head Nov. 17, compare to 460 head last week and 742 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, shorn slaughter lambs were steady while wooled slaughter lambs sold mostly $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter ewes and feeder lambs again were too few to establish a trend. Receipts included about 79% slaughter lambs, 12% slaughter ewes, 8% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate demand. Slaughter ewes again offered in small drafts.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 5 head, 128 lbs., 93.50; 52 head, 143 lbs., 94.50. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 119 to 125 lbs., 92.00 to 93.00 (92.30); 131 to 137 lbs., 93.00 to 94.00 (93.70). Wooled, Choice 1 to 2, 10 head, 114 lbs., 95.50. Wooled. Choice 2 to 3, 9 head, 95 lbs., 94.50 hair sheep.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 6 head, 133 to 143 lbs., 33.00 to 35.00 (34.04). Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 14 head, 185 to 195 lbs., 37.50 to 41.00 (38.46); 5 head, 201 lbs., 38.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 22 head, 93 lbs., 95.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 10 head, 109 lbs., 69.50. Selection 1 to 2, 16 head, 110 to 112 lbs., 57.00 to 59.00 (58.63).
