2010 Kansas Workforce Summit Jan. 20 and 21

Western Kansas Manufacturers Association is sponsoring the annual Kansas Workforce Summit. The 2010 Kansas Workforce Summit "Going for the Green" will be held Jan. 20 and 21 at the Topeka Capital Plaza Hotel. Governor Mark Parkinson will open the Summit with an update on the state of the Kansas Green Economy. Registrations will be limited to 300 participants.

The Kansas Workforce Summit is a do not miss annual forum for community members, chamber representatives, legislators and government officials, employers, educators, and local workforce board members to address the new realities facing the workforce and economic development issues in Kansas. This year's Summit will feature a legislative update with Speaker of the House Mike O'Neal, President of the Senate Steve Morris, Assistant Minority Leader of the Senate Janis Lee, and Representative Ann Mah.

Jesse Heier, director of the Midwest Governors' Association in Washington, D.C., will discuss topics surrounding workforce creation and retraining in the new energy economy. Ron Painter, chief executive officer of the National Association of Workforce Boards, will present economic recovery in the "green" economy. J. Domenic Giandomenico, Director of Education and Workforce Programs at the Institute for a Competitive Workforce, will provide directions from the Institute for a competitive workforce.
