Hay trade slow to moderateIn Kansas, the hay trade is slow to moderate. Demand is moderate for dairy and stock cow alfalfa, alfalfa pellets, grinding alfalfa and grass hay, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Nov. 17. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted. Southwest: Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady. Movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $190-$250; supreme dairy, $125-$130; premium, $115-$130; good, $100-$115. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $85-$95, mostly $90-$95, an instance $100. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, $105-$120, ground on truck, $100-$110. For the week ending Nov. 14 13,468 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,615 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. PM6 good, in small squares, 4150. BMR sudan, good, in large rounds, $60; fair, in large bales, $45. South central: Dairy/grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets steady. Movement moderate to active. Horse alfalfa, in medium squares, $195; Dairy, 65-85 cents/point RFV, supreme, $120-$140, an instance $150; premium, $110-$130; Stock cow, in medium squares or large rounds, $90-$110. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, edge of the field, $65-$80, mostly $70-$75, Utility or wet, $65-$70. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots, $100-$120. For the week ending Nov. 14, 4,102 tons of grinding alfalfa and 2,350 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered.
