Cotton, sorghum harvest past half-way markNew Mexico There were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Nov. 15, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, New Mexico Field Office, Nov. 16. Topsoil moisture was 25 percent very short, 41 percent short and 34 percent adequate. Wind damage was 4 percent light and 3 percent moderate. Freeze damage was 11 percent light, 1 percent moderate and 2 percent severe with 3 percent of winter wheat crops damaged by freeze. Alfalfa conditions were mostly good to fair with 97 percent of the sixth cutting completed and 58 percent of the seventh cutting completed. Cotton ranged from fair to excellent with 66 percent harvested. Corn conditions were mostly good with 94 percent of the grain harvested. Irrigated sorghum conditions were mostly good with 66 percent harvested for grain. Dry sorghum conditions were mostly poor to fair with 100 percent mature and 72 percent harvested for grain. Irrigated winter wheat conditions were mostly good with 98 percent emerged. Dry winter wheat conditions were mostly good to fair. Peanut conditions were mostly fair with 81 percent harvested. Chile conditions ranged from fair to excellent with 69 percent of the red chile harvested. Pecan conditions were mostly good to excellent. Cattle conditions were mostly fair. Sheep conditions were mostly fair to poor. Range and pasture conditions were mostly poor to fair.
